This community project started as a team project assignment that we have to completed in 3 weeks and to deliver a final working iOS mockup of a daycare app.
The challenge was to create a clean, precise easy to use design while taken consideration of the target audiences. For that we start understanding the need of the users, did research and asked them questions regarding their problems what they think will be solved by using this app, and what are the prime features they want to see in the app.
I took it as an opportunity to design an app that connects parents and teachers on a common platform but also helps parents to take part in their child’s fun moments through pictures.
Target audience are those who want to interact with their child’s education provider. To view their pictures, ask questions about them and teachers who want to notify the parents.
We did a research for this app, like what are the features that we can add in our design. We studied the competitive analysis and talked with number of parents, teachers, social workers. research was conducted in form of interviews and surveys to better understand the users and their viewpoints.
Main findings:
Parent teacher need a communication channel to talk with each other more promptly.
Parent wants to view their child’s daily report and pictures doing fun activities.
Teacher wants to have a common platform where they can easily notify parents beforehand regarding the events or change in schedule.
As per findings, it helped in finalizing the idea of designing. A storyboard and user persona were created as per the findings. Storyboard is used to visually predict how it’s going to be to users. It also helps in depicting user’s experience with the product.
Low-fidelity Wireframe or base structure started, created few sketches on paper to design the overall app structure. Then after discussion with UI team we created medium fidelity grey scale screens.
The basic site map i created after gathering the data from my research phase helps me in designing the screens and the user flow, how user is going to be in the app. It also helped me throughout the designing phase as it gave me an estimation of screens that i am going to design. Taking this as my blueprint i started creating low fidelity wireframes.
Once the structure was ready, UI team used the style guides and created the final mockup screens and at last after continuous work and hard work of 3 weeks our working mockup was ready to be present.
